Photographier la phalarope à bec étroit - To take pictures of the red-necked phalarope

In Iceland, bird watchers will easily tell you that to take pictures of the red-necked phalarope is far away to be a challenge. This is partly due to the fact that this bird is very common and most of the time not really shy. Yes of course, you can make pictures of this bird, but you have to do the picture you want, you know the one you love, the one that is different from everything you saw on forums and blogs. They usually look at me like “What, what kind of pictures do you want to do?”
After some difficulties when I started photographing birds, I quickly realize that the daylight was not the best, especially when the contrast on the targeted bird was intense. So I just do not go out photographing birds during the daylight (well I’m still bird watching). I prefer to enjoy the evenings light which are milder. Of course I had to find a place in Reykjavík where to find this bird. I’m often going to a small river called Ulfarsá, close to home, which is quite rich in terms of bird life. I found a couple there that settled and has been breeding there for two years. I just had to observe them without perturbing them, and to look for their preferred rock to preen and the location they liked the most. Then, I just had to find a nice location to wait for them and for the beautiful evening light.

Once I had found this location to take pictures, even without camouflage (but still with clothes that help me to hide in the environment), I just had to wait to obtain this kind of pictures and finally pictures of a preening red-necked phalarope on a small rock. As you can see below, by just moving few meters, I could get different lights and colors in the background, a pure marvel.

#21 loud winter 2017-02-24 08:30 Woah! I'm really digging the template/theme of this site.
It's simple, yet effective. A lot of times it's difficult to get that "perfect balance" between user friendliness and appearance.

I must say you have done a great job with this.

Also, the blog loads extremely quick for me on Firefox.
Outstanding Blog!
